Newsletter #39 Keep going. Keep doing.

Hi everyone,

Is it just me, or is cold outreach becoming more self-aware in 2024?

…which brings me to two hot tips about sending outreach messages on LinkedIn…

1) Always spell the person’s name correctly (it is literally right there in front of you)

2) Never give them an option to say “no”, because they will take it.

This week I want to touch on the importance of consistency and taking action in your business.

In the Mighty Freelance Community, and in my private coaching calls, there’s a common theme of people wanting to do new things to grow their business…and then not doing them.

This is mostly because of resistance around:

  • Posting content on social
  • Pitching bigger clients
  • Pitching consistently
  • Following up with pitches
  • Raising prices
  • Stepping out of comfort zones

So I wanted to share this post from musician Amanda Palmer. I’m not really a fan of her music, but I AM a fan of her thinking.

If you’re really serious about taking control of your business growth this year, it starts with doing.

It’s simple (but not easy).

To get more clients and more visibility, you need to block off some time every week to pitch, create content, and network.

Those are the three pillars that will help you generate ongoing work in the short and long term.

There are 33,185,550 small businesses and 40,119 enterprise businesses in the USA, and an estimated 334 million companies worldwide.

So if you’re wondering whether any businesses out there are: a) Looking for freelance help b) Willing to pay your rates c) Dream clients who just haven’t found you yet — the answer is YES. There is literally SO much work out there for the taking.

All you need to do to get in front of businesses is write something, somewhere, and hit send.

Every LinkedIn post, every pitch, and every sales call is an opportunity for you to try new things and figure out what does/doesn’t work, until you’ve found your own success formula.

Keep writing. Keep publishing. Keep sending. Don’t stop until you have the business you keep dreaming about!

Have a great weekend 🙂 Rachael x

In the Mighty Freelancer community this week, we chatted about:

  • Successful cold outreach strategies for LinkedIn – what’s working right now for group members who are pitching, and what their response rates are like
  • What to do if a CMO sends you a connection request?!
  • LinkedIn Premium – worth the price, or not?
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator – how is it different from Premium?
  • The new mandatory Corporate Transparency Act requirements if your freelance business is based in the USA
  • Should you have a resume as a freelancer?

Plus: We held our first coffee chat meetup of the year – because talking to other writers is always better than typing to them.
