Newsletter #33 Why I refuse to stop copywriting and become another generic business coach
Hi everyone
Last week, someone I’m in a mastermind group with asked me if I planned to give up freelance work to focus solely on growing my βB2B freelance communityβ and doing 1:1 mentoring.
My answer was emphatically NOOOOOO!!!!
When you’re teaching freelancers strategies to….
- Find high-paying clients
- Send simple, successful pitches
- Close retainer projects
- Build structured systems to manage their business
- Etc.
…I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY believe that you need to stay in the trenches with everyone else, so you know what’s working currently, and what’s happening in the market.
One thing I notice about most freelance business coaches is that they’re no longer doing client work (which is obviously super tempting…), but that makes it hard to keep connected with whatever the current realities of freelancing are.
If I’m not working alongside the people I’m training, and not going through the same ups, downs, and sideways of freelance life, it feels a bit…disingenuous.
And I’m not in the business of selling any old BS to make money.
So β I’m not giving up client work anytime soon.
And also, the money is waaaaay too good to quit π
In the group this week, I’ll be:
- Showing you the exact places and methods I use to find my high-paying SaaS clients, with step-by-step instructions for each one, and a nifty spreadsheet to keep all your pitching prospects in one place so you never run out of people to contact.
- Talking about how my pitching sprint went last week. Did I replace the retainer client I lost a couple of weeks ago, or not…. π¬
- Reporting back about the app I’m currently testing to help freelancers manage their time, workload, and sanity more easily
Wishing you a cozy week full of hot chocolates, soup, and fuzzy slippers!

Want to charge $500…$1000…and more for writing content?
This is the exact content brief I use when I’m writing high-paid articles and other long form content for clients. It contains all the questions and information you need to get from clients to help you confidently deliver what your clients (and audience) are looking for. It’s also essential if you’re subcontracting work to other writers so they can hit the ground running with the articles you need help with.
