Newsletter #35 Need more work before January? Try this email template

Hi everyone,

A quick update – the Mighty Freelancer Slack community is now halfway to its cap of 35 people. So if you’re a B2B SaaS/tech content writer or copywriter looking for a supportive, focused, and super knowledgeable group to help drive your momentum for next year- there’s still space left! Once we’re full, it will be invite only via waitlist, and the monthly price will increase for new members. I seem to be turning this into more of a membership as I figure out exactly what you all need in there, so there are new mini-trainings being added weekly in the B2B Systems dashboard 🙂

As you can see, it’s getting pretty frosty here in Berlin. Which is also distracting me from focusing… I grew up in Auckland and never experienced the joy of being in snow until I was 30, so it still makes me waaaaay too overexcited when I wake up to this!

OMG IT’S SO PRETTTTTYYYYYYYY!

And I’m not the only one in the snowy spirit.

The national courier company here has live online delivery tracking, which they have just changed to a Christmas theme!

🥹 Usually you see a van making its way towards you, but now a reindeer will be delivering your parcel to your cozy log cabin. It’s all too cute.

And it makes me want to order more stuff so I can see it again…. I know this is a sneaky marketing trick, but I don’t care!

I’m hanging out for my clients to start winding down their work for the year, so I can finally get time to work on my own projects over the New Year break.

Despite losing my anchor client last month, November has been a blur of client work, with everyone wanting extra bits and pieces of content and copy to help them kick off strong in 2024.

So if you’re looking for extra work (or extra holiday spending money), now’s the perfect time to send your current clients a quick email to ask if there’s anything more you can help them with right now.

Here’s a quick email template you can use:

Hi [client name],

I have some space available between now and January if you need a hand with any additional [services you offer] before the holiday break. Let me know! Thanks, [Your name]

This week in the Slack group:

  • New trainings added: 🤓 How to optimize your current service prices for profit in 2024 🤓 An editable cashflow forecasting spreadsheet so you can track the exact amount of cash coming in and going out of your business every week and month. This takes away all the guesswork around your finances, and means you can run your business with a clear understanding of what you need to change to increase your cash flow. (Yep, this is amazingly boring! But it’s a game changer that will help you take a good hard look at your client pricing and outgoings, so you can ensure you’re quoting your services in a way that’s helping you make money – instead of just helping you stay afloat. 🤓 A RACI matrix to help you manage feedback and edits on your copy when you’re working with a client’s team 🙄 What to do when a designer “improves” your copy after you’ve delivered it to your clients
  • Coffee chat recording with Lee Payton, CMO and Chief Copywriter at Conversionly, about how freelancers should approach cold pitching to agencies, what to say on an initial agency call, what your portfolio should look like, and what to do if you don’t have a portfolio yet. And…should you mention you use AI on a call with an agency…or not?

That’s all for this week! I’m heading into the SNOW to check out the Christmas markets, throw some snowballs, and get some mulled wine 🙂

☃️ Stay cozy ☃️

Looking for the perfect content brief?

This is the exact content brief I use when I’m writing guides and articles for my own clients. It contains all the questions and information you need to get from your clients to help you confidently deliver an epic first draft that gets great feedback (and minimal edits!) A content brief is also essential if you’re subcontracting work to other writers, so they can hit the ground running with every new project.
