Newsletter #26 You’re not just a pretty logo!

I’ve noticed a few people recently talking about “world-building” as part of creating a personal brand.

And I can’t recommend this highly enough as a strategy to grow your freelancing business. Especially this year, which has been…weird.

To put it politely.

People often tend to think of personal branding as stopping at a logo, some colours, and a website.

But it’s so much more than that.

At its essence, world building means that you develop and implement a “vibe” or a story around your business that people can relate to — which is really just an extension of who you are, what you like, and a shared vision that other people can connect with.

So you stop selling just a service or a just product, and sell something richer that clients can become a part of.

Here’s a MasterClass article to give you some more context.

And here’s another one from Writer’s Digest.

And here’s how this can all translate into building your personal brand.

I’m currently attempting to explain this more on LinkedIn, so you can check out the ongoing comments there if you’re curious about what I’m getting at here!

Like many of you, work has been kind of quiet here lately, which has created the perfect storm of: * Having a lot of free time * Having some terrible ideas for yet another ecommerce store Testing my best idea has cost me $100 so far, which, it turns out, doesn’t actually buy a lot of wool these days.

That’s all I’m gonna say for now!

Love to hear if you have any creative outlets that don’t involve writing? I’ve talked to a few writers in the last couple of weeks that are doing some really interesting things that they should talk more about – I find it incredibly inspiring to see what everyone is up to!

See you next Monday
