Newsletter #34 Is client work finally picking up? My spidey senses say YES!

Hi everyone,

It’s the start of snow season in Berlin, so I’ve been staying inside most of the time, catching up on client work and building out training stuff.

I’ve had conversations with 4 new potential clients in the last week – and I’m getting the feeling that…. WORK IS SERIOUSLY STARTING TO RAMP UP AGAIN!!

YES I AM EXCITED AND YOU SHOULD BE TOO! If you’re putting off your cold pitching until January, my advice is start pitching now.

Even if you’re not looking to book any new work until 2024 — get those initial conversations happening.

My spidey senses tell me that B2B companies with funding and juicy marketing budgets have been holding off all year to see what’s going on with the overall economy, but they’re ready to move now on content and conversion projects to get off to a flying start in January.

This week in the Slack group:

  • We said hello to a bunch of new members 👋
  • We got some smoking hot tips about what CMOs are looking for when they get pitches from freelance writers, and how to write a cold email that really stands out
  • We discussed why “weird” is your advantage when you’re doing outreach…but how weird should you be? And should it involve manatees, cocaine bears, or photos of your dog?
  • We talked about how it’s faster and easier to plan and run successful cold outreach sprints when you have a simple, repeatable system in place
  • Our resident CMO talked about old school outreach tactics that are super effective, but which most freelance writers don’t think about (hint: these could be your secret advantage!)
  • New training added: I uploaded my own personal workflow checklist for running a website project from start to finish, and updated the super-essential Finding Clients lesson.
  • Recommended book list added: this is my Notion library of every book I’ve read that has helped me grow a 6-figure business in some way (turns out I have read a LOT of books…)
  • Leads: I dropped in a few SaaS copy and content leads. Growth and stable income is something I really want to prioritize for the community

Righto, I have a deadline staring at me, so it’s only a quick email this week!

Stay cozy…or cool….wherever you are in the world 🙂

Need a professional, structured content brief?

This is the exact content brief I use when I’m writing high-paid articles and other long form content for clients. It contains all the questions and information you need to get from clients to help you confidently deliver an epic first draft. It’s also essential if you’re subcontracting work to other writers so they can hit the ground running with articles you need help with.
